Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced this week he will not endorse Georgia State Sen. Butch Miller (R-Gainesville) to replace current and outgoing Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan.
Trump announced the news on his website this week.
“I will not be supporting or endorsing Senator Butch Miller, running for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia, because of his refusal to work with other Republican Senators on voter fraud and irregularities in the State,” Trump wrote.
“Hopefully there will be strong and effective primary challengers for the very important Lieutenant Governor position!”
Duncan announced earlier this year that he will not seek a second term. Trump, in May, said Duncan and Gov. Brian Kemp prevented state legislators from taking action on what Trump said was fraud within the state during the 2020 presidential election.
Duncan has consistently advocated against Trump and his supporters and their place within the Republican Party.
Miller, one of the state legislature’s highest-ranking Republicans, announced his candidacy for Georgia’s lieutenant governor in May.
In an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) earlier this year, Miller said his campaign will focus on conservative principles and policies.
“Georgia has had conservative values and conservative policies that have made us so successful,” Miller said.
“No one is moving out of Georgia to New York and California and Michigan. They’re moving out of those places to Georgia because our conservative values and policies work for families and businesses.”
Miller argued his record in the state legislature and experience as a successful car salesman will help propel his campaign.
“That’s exactly why I can win in November. I can promote and secure and expand our conservative values and even put those in context where Democrats are comfortable voting for them,” Miller reportedly said.
“Every senator has a vote, and every senator has a voice, and every voice deserves to be heard.”
